Top 5 games for the iPod Touch

Looking around the Apps store for some games for my iPod Touch the other day I came across a dilemma. Browsing down the massive list of games available in the store there is no way of telling which games are any good and which ones aren’t. They may be arranged in order of most downloaded but that doesn’t necessarily mean that the most downloaded games are the best available. So then begins the long process of viewing each game individually and reading the user reviews.

Well in the name of saving time I’ve been having a browse around the web and putting together a list of the games that everyone agrees are the best available.

• Virtual Pool
• Crash Bandicoot Nitro Kart 3D
• Brothers in Arms – Hour of Heroes
• Cro-Mag Rally
• Solitaire

1.Virtual Pool

First on our list is Virtual Pool. This is a brilliant 3D pool simulation game which encompasses all the realism and characteristics of a real game of pool. The iPod Touch’s brilliant touch interface allows the user to aim, apply spin and shoot the cue ball all in a realistic pool playing environment.

Included in the game is a Career mode in which the user is guided by Curly, the pool hustler, through 6 different pool halls and over 100 opponents.

Future updates to Virtual Pool include

• An easy shoot mode.
• Ghost ball – which means players can see where the cue ball will go as well as where is it likely to end up
• Overhead aim – an aerial view of the table, which combined with the ghost ball feature will make taking shots a great deal easier
• Improved touch screen response

2. Crash Bandicoot Nitro Kart 3D

This classic Playstation title has now been adapted for the iPhone and the iPod Touch. Released in summer 2008, Crash Bandicoot Nitro Kart 3D takes you on a crazy journey through 12 different levels and multiple environments as you battle your way past your adversaries using 8 zany weapons.

This game also uses the tilt sensitive technology of the iPod Touch to enable you to steer your way through the extreme levels. Just be careful of anyone sitting next to you!

3. Brothers in Arms – Hour of Heroes

The highly successful television series comes to the iPhone and iPod Touch in this gripping World War 2 epic. Play as a member of the 101^st airborne regiment as you battle your way through 13 pulsating missions in Normandy, Ardennes and Tunisia. Along the way utilise a variety of vehicles including 4X4’s and a Sherman Tank as well as a plethora of weapons such as a bazooka, sniper rifle and a machine gun

4. Solitaire

This is a standard issue game on any platform and it’s just as addictive when it comes to the iPod Touch adaptation. Also known as Klondike or Patience, Solitaire includes all the features expected of one of the most long standing computer games.

• Drag and drop cards
• The game state is saved when play is interrupted
• Best score is saved
• Unlimited undo
• Auto complete to finish the game

5. Cro-Mag Rally

This wild and reckless racing game has been around a while in terms of iPod games (since May 2008) but it still delivers all the thrills and spills expected of the modern day racing game.

Your character is Brog – a Neanderthal speed freak who batters his way through the Stone, Iron and Bronze ages using a variety of primitive and deadly weapons.

Guide Brog through 9 different race tracks with a choice of 11 different vehicles. For those of you with a competitive edge you can connect via Wi-Fi and play against your friends.
